Anyone live next to Southern Cemetery, Manchester?
« on: Saturday 08 January 11 20:29 GMT (UK) »
After much searching, and lots of help from a kind Lady on here, I think I have finally come across my G'grandparents grave.  I so hope it is the right one!

It is in Southern Cemetery, Barlow Moor Road, Manchester.  The details are as follows:

E Non Conformist. 2081
Thomas Berry born Ireland 1851, buried 1-12-1915
Sarah Jane Berry born Liverpool 1863, buried 23-8-1929
I do not know exact dates of birth or death, thus struggling to find them.

Is there a kind soul near there with a digital camera who could possibly take a picture of the grave, and one of the headstone, if there is one, and e-mail it to me.  I would be SOOOOO grateful, as I have come to a bit of a brick wall.

Kind regards,  Tom.

How kind of you to do that for me, it is really much appreciated.  It's been a long struggle trying to find these two, I so hope it is them.  Don't go out of your way Beannie, if the weather is too bad, it can wait a bit longer.  Don't want you getting flu, there's hardly any jabs left!  :D

Thanks again,

Tom.

Hi Beverley,  sorry for the delay with my reply, Iv been ill!

If you could do that for me, I would be very grateful.  A lady on here, Beannie went along and took a couple of pics for me, unfortunately, the headstone has been snapped in half, and so the maintenence guys at the cemetery have sunk it into the ground to make it stand up.

Beannie was going to return for me with a trowel and try to expose the writing on the part of the stone which is buried in the ground, but unfortunately, her Husband had a serious operation, and she obviously couldnt return.

If this sounds too much like hard work, don't worry, its ok.  I dont want you pulling your back out digging! lol.  The base of the headstone is still there, but as the broken part is in front of it, I couldnt see on the photo if there is any writing on the base part.

Thanks, Tom.
