Thank you once again Jean

Is there any chance of getting a photo?
maybe when the weather is nicer. (pouring rain (bucketing) here on the Wet coast of Canada).
Are there any  other THOM`S or Beauties?
at your leisure, off course.

Thank goodness you are able to do this. Thanks again.

Yours Aye,

The weather's the same here, we don't usually get much rain - but we've had our fair share in the last month!
I'll get you a photo no problem, but please don't be afraid to PM me with a reminder, as I'm likely to forget, we tend to hibernate a bit at this time of year.
However, we've got a Christmas sing-a-long down at the Kirk on the 9th December, so I'll be down there and will try to remember my camera. There's no toilets at the Kirk so we don't hang around too long, especially in this cold weather!
There is a couple of other Beattie stones (and there are still Beatties in the area), one is a pre 1855 one, but I can't lay my hands on the index just now, but I'll let you knw what it says if you've not seen it already. I may have already put it on here, try a search and let me know. The other is on the Kirk plan as R Beattie, but unfortunately, no inscription remains.
But no other Thom burials marked on the plan.
I have the communion roll which covers the period late 1880's so I'll check if there's any mention of your folks on there, but once again don't know where it is. I've took copies of everything to the Kirk and I have masters here, but I've hidden them so well I can't remember where!

Jean :)

Hi Jean

I wonder if you could help me with my grandfathers and grandmothers grave
I have found that they were buried in the Old part of Johnshaven Cemetery
Compartment E Section 3 numbers 553 554 and 555.
I would like to know if there are any gravestones.
I live in England but am hoping to come up there next year.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Montrosekid

Now there's a coincidence of queries.

Just last week I enquired about my maternal grandparents place of burial.
I believed were buried in the old section of Johnshaven but was not certain.
I supplied names and dates of death to the Registrar's Office in Stonenhaven and got this response in a couple of days.

"I can confirm that your Maternal Grandparents did indeed own ground in
Johnshaven. The Old part of the Cemetery.
This office does hold a map however, I am unable to provide a photo copy."
They go on to say that enquirers can view this map by appointment.

The address you need to send the enquiry to is:
stonehaven.registrar@aberdeenshire.gov.uk

Have you done a search for Freeman on here, there seems to be quite a few hits.

Maybe someone already has the info you are looking for ;)
Please let me know if you don't need a pic.

Thanks
Jean

Hi Jean and Hi Cousin Dot.
This is all I have:
My maternal grandparents both lived and died in Johnshaven in Benholm parish

Walter = Isabella ADAM, m. 27th August 1898  Johnshaven village, Benholm parish
Sources: SR birth, death & marriage certificates
Walter was born in Gourdon, Bervie parish and died in Johnshaven, 12th Sept 1925 aged 58 years.
Isabella was born in Johnshaven and died there 25th July 1943 aged 66.

An enquiry to:  stonehaven.registrar@aberdeenshire.gov.uk
elicited this answer -- Your Grandfather purchased
three Lairs in the Old part of Johnshaven Cemetery

They are located in Compartment E
Section 3 No's 553, 554 and 555.
I can understand one lair -- but three lairs obviously means other burials I did not expect.
My parents, an uncle, my brother and sister-in-law are all buried in the new cemetery as are Freeman cousins and many personal friends from my childhood.
I will not be able to visit until summer next year at the earliest, if anyone on this forum visits regularly I would appreciate any information they can provide.  I'm sure Dot would also appreciate some help with this, we share the same grandparents.
