The 12th Regiment of Foot became the Suffolk Regiment in 1881, and are now part of The Royal Anglian Regiment.
There is a Suffok Regiment website, and you may be able to use it for more information about their service in Australia and Lancashire:
http://www.suffolkregiment.org/Menu.htmlIt seems clear that the regiment was at the Eureka Stockade.
