What happened to Samuel Wormleighton ?
« on: Tuesday 04 January 11 05:49 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace what happened to a Samuel Wormleighton born in 1805 in Enderby. He married a Phoebe Yeomans in Enderby on the 26th December 1824. He is listed in the 1841 cenus as living in Fleet Street, St Margarets with his wife and children Eliza b1829, Mary Ann b1830 and Joseph b1831. He is a framework knitter. After this I cannot trace him or his family. Could anyone else shed some light onto this please.
Many thanks
Whizzy

No idea if this is your Samuel but have you investigated:
1851
HO107/2082/516/10
Transcribed as Wormlighton with ammendment to Wormleighton, so someone is also researching this family. However this Samuel is married to a 'Lucy' but he is a FWK. The writing is very feint and barely readable but it might be worth a look.  :-\
Of course both parents may have died, and the girls married?  :-\ I can't see Joseph either. The surname may have been mistranscribed/misinterpreted ... or they emmigrated ...  :-\

Per the baptism transcription on familysearch.org, Joseph Wormleighton was born in 1828. This tallies with the age  of Joseph Wormleighton who was transported to Tasmania for 7 years in 1850 (on the Blenheim) aged 22 having been convicted of housebreaking in Leicester in 1847, when aged 19.

Wow folks that has given me a bit to work on. It is a bit surprising to find a Joseph that was transported, from what I can decipher from the writing it seems to mention a cousin as well, so I assume that means that 2 Wormleighton bad boys were deported ? I had better look further into that.

Whizzy.
