1861 census address
« on: Monday 03 January 11 21:36 GMT (UK) »
I have come across an address on a census that is confusing.
It states that William Spittle b1797 in Tettenhall, Staffs lived with his family at
Wightwick Footpath, Dog Kennel, Tettenhall, Staffs.
I was wondering if this might have been a canal boat.
I looked up the web page for Wolverhampton Boat People and discovered that other people's surname from the census sheet was on this site.
The site says it concerns church records, not census.
Anybody got any ideas.

Paul Lockley
Spittle, Stych ---- Wolverhampton and surrounds
Peach ------   Derbyshire, Staffordshire
Lockley ----- Shropshire/Wolverhampton
Trubshaw ---- Cannock
Marklew --- Lichfield

Do you have a reference for this census?  I have found what seems to be the address in 1861, but I can't see a SPITTLE family.  :-\

RG9/1984/61/4 - Dog Kennel, Wightwick Footpath, Tettenhall

William LOCKLEY (Labourer) and family

Thomas MINCHER (Ag Lab) and family

Richard RILEY (Labourer) and wife

None of these families or the neighbouring ones seem to have occupations linked to the canals.

I think it's just a slightly unusual address - there are three separate households with the address Dog Kennel, and no occupations linked to the canals: William is a labourer, and his son a plasterer, for instance.
