I wonder Run Kitty would there be a death notice/obituary for Samuel that might lead us to the Freeman's ??

Sandra

Obit for Samuel Richard Bryant in the Globe and Mail, 29 March 1963, page 55.  He died on March 28.  In his 81st year.  Husband of Eleanor May Bowers of 1296 Indian Road, Lorne Park.  Father of Mrs G Freeman (Lorraine), and Albert John.  Mother of Mrs Copestick (Ada) and Mrs Gage (Queenie).  Interment Prospect Cemetery.

.......

It is possible that this couple had three children.  A daughter Barbara Freeman born 1937 and passed away 2013 (no source) married Donald Walter Sommerville born 1933 passed away 1975 Thornhill, York, Ontario.

Canadian Headstone Index, 1840-2017  - Donald W. Sommerville - died 23 December 1975.

https://canadianheadstones.ca/wp/headstone-vendor/?wpda_search_column_idperson=196595

Inscription - In Loving Memory of DONALD W. SOMMERVILLE
3 SEPT.  - 23 DEC. 1975

Barbara might have remarried at least once, if not three times ??

Any chance of picking up an obit for that one Run Kitty ?

Sandra

Obit for Donald Walter Sommerville in the Toronto Star 26 Dec 1975, page B6.  He died in Richmond Hill on Dec 23.  Husband of B Freeman.  Father of E L (Mrs G MacDuffie) and Robert Walter.  Son of Amelia and the late Robert Sommerville. Brother of Sylvia (Mrs P Zinkan).  Interment Thornhill Cemetery.

Great - RK - So Ellen perhaps uses the name Lorraine and was described as Mrs G Freeman in 1963

Initials fit but discounted Canada Voters List 1940 (doesn't fit with George revisiting his sister during the war) - Mrs E L Freeman
Marital Status Widow - Residence Place Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Electoral District Spadina  - the other names given wouldn't tie in either:- Morris Freeman TTC, W J Freeman, W G Freeman (shipper).

Reply #12 mentions possible marriage between Ellen Lorraine Bryant/Freeman and Lou Brill.
On the 1953 Voter list for York-Humber, Ellen Freeman, packer, is listed at the same address on Porter Avenue as Lewis Brill, driver. No one else listed at that address.

There is also a Canada Voters List for 1965 (so after Lorraine's father Samuel died) Lewis Brill (baker) and Mrs Ellen Brill (operator) - 440 Winona Drive. York South. Ontario.

and in 1972 Pefferlaw RR 2 - Mrs Ellen Brill (Real Estate Sales) and Lewis Brill (hydro maint) - another different occupation ??

So it appears that although they might have still been married, George Freeman and Ellen were no longer together by 1953. George Freeman could have moved elsewhere in Canada, back to England or just about anywhere, really. He doesn't appear to be on the voter's list for York area.
I wondered if daughter Barbara might have appeared on the voters list with him at an address to confirm his identity, but she married at age 20 or 21. I presume voting age was 21.
Do George and Ellen ever appear together on earlier voters lists? If not, it might indicate that their separation was much earlier.

There may be a brother Albert John Bryant - born 1923 - died 6 January 1995 Toronto.

Married to Eva Henrietta Thompson - 1927 - 8 July 2009 Toronto. Ontario.

This type of headstone is the same as the one for his father Samuel and Eleanor.
