Mathew/Mathie in Markinch, Fife
« on: Monday 03 January 11 01:01 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I'm researching Robert Matthews, born in 1796 to William Mathew and Agnes King in Markinch, Fife who emigrated to Ontario, Canada in the 1820's.  William Mathew and Agnes King are listed in the Markinch Fife burials (both died in 1802).  The only marriage record I can find for William is to Agnes McKenzie in 1777 and I'm wondering if it's possible that Agnes King and Agnes McKenzie could be the same person?

Also, I'm looking to see if anyone has done any research on this family and could help me determine William and Agnes' parentage.  Primarily, I'm trying to figure out if William Mathew is the same person as William Mathie born in 1748 to Robert Mathie and Elspet Nicol (married in Markinch in 1744).  On Agnes King's death record it indicates that she is buried next to James Nichol - I don't know if that would indicate a relative or if their burial locations just happened to be next to the Nichols family.
