I wonder if it would be worth your while contacting the Castlemaine Historical Society.  Surely someone could at least give you a 'mud map' of the cemetery with the Section B noted.

My resources (which are often incomplete and "patchy") do not show a headstone for GEORGE CHRISTOPHER BROWN.

Just a thought here-

It is not unusual when  a loved one dies away from his home that he is buried at the place of death, but memorialised at the burial place of other family members.

If his wife died in the North Melbourne area, have  you searched in the North Melbourne vicinity for her burial?

Thanks for your responses everyone.

His wife died more than 40 years later (he was only early 40's when he died), had remarried and I was lucky enough to visit her grave in Heathcote while there.

I have just sat here with a magnifying glass trying to read the letters on the plan, can make out Area C and F, but that is all.  However, on the site it says there is a plan which was drawn up in 1875 in the sextons office.

I did not have the inquest index, so thanks for that.

Will have to wait and here from the Cemetery Trust.

Hi Col_Mor,
   Welcome to rootschat  :) :)

Was there something related to Castlemaine that you wished to query?  Or perhaps you just wanted to contact cathy?  If so you need to make another couple of posts (can be trivial) and then you can send cathy a personal message by clicking on the letter/text in a circle under her username.

cheers,
   Ros
