william robert bell - stockton - inquest detail
« on: Saturday 01 January 11 18:52 GMT (UK) »
My great grandfather William Robert Bell died on 25 September 1907. I have his death certificate which states he died from 'injury to neck by accident at his work on 20th September 1907 followed by anthrax consequent theron'. It goes on to say that an inquest was held by the coroner for Stockton ward 26th - 30th September 1907 (it may be 26th and 30th but unclear). He was a millwrights labourer
I understand that inquests were normally covered by local newspapers but I live in Berkshire. Is there anyone who may be able to help me.

Thanks

Mark

Can't help you by looking but a bit of info- by coincidence I had an inquest for the same area in the same year and it was indeed in the newspaper- The Evening Gazette, and it gave quite a lot of information, the fact that you have the exact dates means that someone should be able to track it down for you. I went further and tried to get the original inquest documents but was told that almost all were not kept.

regards,

Dan
