Elizabeth Shears is also a bit esoteric about her origins - despite being specific about her PoB in 1891 onward, the only sight of her is in 1871 in Service in Poole, Dorset.

In 1881 in the Lymington area theres a widowed Elizabeth Garland, born c1852, Chalbury Common - a marriage can be seen of an Elizabeth Shears to a John Garland just prior in the area - but no following marriage to an Edward P before 1891  :(

Hi

Quote
Percy was b. christchurch Bournemouth 1886

Is this birthplace from the 1911 census or somewhere else?

The free 1911 index has a match for a Percy Pearce b Bournemouth - he is 24yrs old and living in Christchurch

The same index has a Percy Pearce aged 23 b Lymington also living in Christchurch

So which one is yours - the 24yr old - born 1886/1887  or the 23yr old b 1887/1888

Hi Carole - I latched on to the newly quoted parent's names, and a Percy born Lymington in all census 1891 onward

agree it would help if all info were presented accurately and at the same time   ;)

Hi Mort

Happy New Year - completely agree - no mention of mothers name at outset which would have helped

Also - Lymington was not in the Christchurch Registration district - it was Hampshire

Hi  Elizabeth Shears did marry John Garland so your info is right there,as acc to m/cert (I have),.
and no marriage like you say for Edward so I guess they did not marry.
there are 2 Percy's on free bmd under Hampshire  and I ordered both and they are both the same person with a Henry as father.
so where can I obtain a cert?

One assumes you are happy with the 1891/190 census info for Percy - the Gordon Boys note is interesting ...  http://www.gordons.surrey.sch.uk/history

Anyway, I have looked again at Lymington born Percys, and in the light of his mother being a Garland .....

Try this lads certificate

Births Jun 1886

Garland  Percy     Lymington  2b 651

Out of interest, can you tell me - from the Garland / Shears Marriage Cert - who Elizabeth's father was (and his occupation)

Thanks - have a strong suspicion that she fabricated that name of a Father - no sign of him in 1851/61 .... linked to Chalbury, Dorset.

What about the other info I gave - see the logic?
