I am looking for information on Peter Ritchie Bartleman who came to Canada in 1926, and nothing more is known about him. He was born in July 1882 in Dornoch, Scotland. I would like any information on him since he came to Canada
Thanks

His arrival was on the Empress of Scotland 19 June 1926.  Landed at Quebec and travelled from Southampton.  His status was divorced, b. Durnoch, Scotland.  His employment previously was as hospital attendant and masseur and that is the type of work he was anticipating.  His British contact was his sister, Mrs. W. R. Stokes 13 Waverley Crescent Lemington-on-Tyne Northumberland.  Destination in Canada was given as c/o Y.M.C.A. 100 John St. Quebec but that is crossed off and above is written no address Y.M.S.A.

Thank you  Debbie
There was a brother who Deserted his ship in New york, I wonder if he went to America and lived with him! Another mystery to solve. I also have no information on the sister he mentioned, as far as I know he only had 3 sisters.
Once again thank you for your help
John

Hi Phosphater,

Do you know the name of the brother who went to the USA - and when?   Did any other members of the family come to the USA or to Canada?  Any other information would be really helpful.

 :) :)

Hi Runkitty
Peter's brother was Archibald S Bartleman, he deserted his ship "MANHATTAN" 8th April 1920.  He died on the 7th November 1977 in Winter Yolo, California, America. Archibald had a Wife and daughter in England, and the wife  re-married in 1930. Hope this helps

Hi Debbie
I have been checking my records, and found a Katherine Bartleman (Sister to Peter) who married a Stokoe. Perhaps she is the sister he talks about!

Hi Phosphater,

I see Archibald S. Bartleman on the California Death Index and on the Social Security death index.    His birth date is 12 Feb 1892 in "other country".   The California record says the place of death is Shasta county.  The Social Security record says his last residence was Winters, Yolo County and his last benefit was to Redding, Shasta County.  Both are in Northern California.   It would probably be a good idea to see if you can find an obituary notice for Archibald.  It may say where the rest of his family are living.

Archibald is on the US WW2 draft list (there is a form for men born between 1877 and 1897).  He is living in Oakland, Alameda County California.  He says he was born in Edinburgh and is married to Catherine Cain.    So, he is in California as of 1942.

I don't see Peter on either the California Death Index or SSDI.  The California one covers 1940 - 1997.  I believe the SSDI covers deaths from the 1960s onwards.   I have not found a draft card for Peter either.  If he did go to the US, perhaps he died prior to 1942??

I don't see either of them on the border crossing lists on A--Y (but those are NOT complete).    And, surprisingly, I don't see either of them on the 1930 US census.  The most recent Canadian census is 1911.  This would be too early.

I am sorry I can't be more help.  Hopefully someone else will be able to help you.  Maybe a relative will read your post??  :D

Happy New Year,
RK
