Photograph - Harringtons - possibly Riverland district

I have a photograph of a football team, possibly from the Loxton, Taplan or Riverland district of South Australia.  On the reverse there is stamped "Printed by Harringtons".  Does anyone know if there was a photographer or printer of this name in this district, possibly around the 1930s.  I would like to pass a copy of this photo onto someone I know who is interested in country football in South Australia, but would like to give some indication of just where the photograph may have come from.

Hi PeeCeeBee, I'm writing to you for two reasons:
1. I reside in the Riverland and your query about the football photo caught my eye. My partner belongs to a prominent Loxton football family but I don't know who Harringtons could be. If the photo is still available I know the District Council of Loxton Waikerie would love a copy (if not the original) to add to the  the Loxton Heritage collection. The collection is also online (available through the Loxton Waikerie DC website). I'll ask my partner's uncle whether he knows anything about the Harringtons when I see/speak to him next.

2. It's a small world! I'm a descendant of William Atkins' first family. His second wife was Emma King (nee Palin), someone I believe you're interested in. Our family has found it interesting that William named first daughter by Emma, "Sophia Amelia" because his first wife was called Sophia Amelia and his daughter by her (my great grandmother) was called Amelia. Wonder what Emma thought about her child being named after his former wife?

Many thanks for your reply.  I am still trying to find info re Harringtons - I think my contact re Country Football was going to have something put into the local papers, but haven't heard if that was successful at all.  I will look at the site for the Loxton Council, and am happy to send a digital copy of the photo.  I have relatives who lived at Nangari and ran the general store there in the 1920s for many years - Charles Richard DAY and then his daughters with their husbands (CHELLEW AND CONDON) and then HODGE.  I know Reg Chellew played football in the area, and although I can't pick him out in the photos I have, I would suspect that it is his interest, as the photos came via their collection.  Neither of the daughters had children, so I ended up with a part of their memorabilia.  I have other named photos which I can pass on...

I must admit, I had to do some checking in my tree re William Atkins, and my connection is actually via one of my sons-in-law.  Being addicted as I am to family research, he was more than happy for me to put some info together, especially as his family has a large collection of photos, and we have been trying to name them as much as we can, whilst there are still relatives available who know who the various photographs are... mind you, whilst the list of names and photographs has started, I have yet to meet up with my daughter to actually link them up in the tree.  Danny (my son-in-law) is descended via Alexander Atkins, eldest child of the second marriage.  Have you much info on the life of William Atkins? I am happy to share what I have...

My cousin has done some substantial research on William Atkins (1st family & life before arriving in Aust) so I thought it fitting to ask if he'd mind sharing his findings. If he'd rather deal directly with you, I'll pass on your details.

My son-in-law is a MEWETT, and his line stems from Samuel MEWETT (1803-1888) and Martha BALCOMBE (1806-1895) in the Kersbrook district.  They had 9 children - Robert, Susanna, Charlotte, Jesse, Harriett, Sarah, Thomas, Ruth and John.  If you think any of these may be linked to you, am happy to share what I have.  Regards

                 My late husbands line runs from Jesse Mewett, his father being Clarrence James so it is a direct link. Many thanks for the offer on info but I have the family history that has been done quite a few years ago by L Mewett and continued by Daryll Mewett. Hopefully they will do a family history book. I have all the relevent papers up till a few years ago including some photos of Samuel and Martha. It was what started me looking for my own family history.
I had to comment as you dont see the name often and they are usually related. Hope you had luck with the photo.

Many thanks.  I have a grandson Jesse MEWETT and his little brother Walter...  my daughter and her husband live not far from where the original MEWETT family lived... amazing how some families seem to have extended so much, that you can bet there is a connection... my ZIBELL line is like that!
