Hi Bricklewood

Welcome to rootschat  :)

Do you have evidence that he was born Liverpool?

I see there is a 'submitted' record for him on the IGI but submitted records (as opposed to extracted)are very often speculation without evidence.

I have some information on Lafones in  Liverpool, but mostly for a later period.
'Liverpool Heroes', Book 2 [edited by Ann Clayton and sold locally] contains short biographies of 18 holders of the Victoria Cross with Liverpool links.  Alexander Malins Lafone is one of them - his VC was won at Beersheba in 1917.
The biog includes a little background about the family:  Samuel L.. established a hide and leather business.  He had four sons, Alexander, the earliest, probably born in 1808.
This may not help, but I may be able to get more for you.
A

I don't know where Mary was born she was the daughter of Samuel and Mary Marchant of Waterford Liverpool but I can't find any details about them either.

Mary's father was Samuel Marchant I found
this site may be of interest to you
http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~frpayments/Mar.htm

the only male Marchant as a French Refugee that I can see is Charles Marchant in 1705 aged 5
it looks like his mother was Elizabeth ( wife of Isaac) from Varenne near Noyon in Picardy...
I am just wondering if Charles is the first male Marchant to come here in 1705 - if so - the odds are that Samuel is a descendant of his ?   - unless one of the widows who came over were pregnant when they arrived ....
3 Elizabeth Marchant
3 Susanne Marchant (one aged 62 ,so we can discount her )
