HI David too.

There is no mention of the family Walter or Clara in the 1936
Directory of Northampton.

Neither can a see a possible death.

veeblevort's information looks good.

I will a check an earlier directory in case they are noted
in that.

Hi again.

There is no mention in the 1928 Directory either.

Yes the Walter's death in Weston in1955 is spot on regarding his age but where is this Weston? There are at least 15 Westons in the UK and I presume it must be a town to be able to record a death? There is a Weston between Brackley and Northampton but this is only a village.
Sandy kindly advises that there are no entries in the Northampton directories for Walter or Clara in 1928 or 1936 so it could be that they moved after the 1911 census when they were in Northampton.

Hi David,

In this context, Weston was a Registration district, not a place.

Between 1936 and 1974 it comprised an area spanning
the Avon and Somerset county borders.

As veeblevort says it is/was a registration district.

"The district Weston is an alternative name for Weston super Mare and it spans the boundaries of the counties of Avon and Somerset"

Maybe he died on hols? Or visiting family ?

Carol

Veeblevort,
thank you for advising that Weston is a registration district and is the area between Avon & Somerset----I'm learning something everyday! Maybe Walter and Clara had moved to that area fom Northampton.

Hi Veeblevort,
Your finding of a Walter's death in Weston  I believe is the death I have been searching for. 1911census shows Walter as a Works Manager to a Letterpress Printer and Bookbinder in Northampton. I now have a copy of an Entry of Death for a Walter Lainchbury died Sept. 1955 age 84 at 71, Sunnyside Road, Weston-super-Mare and his occupation listed as Printer (Master) Retired. It would seem after he retired around 1936 (65yrs) he moved to Weston.Possibly he and his wife were divorced before1946 for you found a Clara M Lainchbury married John Birch in March 1946 at Wednesbury.
Many thanks for your valued help to follow the brothers Walter & Frank.

Hi,

I think the 1946 marriage is a different Clara, I found these,

Birth
Clara Millicent LAINCHBURY    Mar Q 1907    Aston    6d  289

If you look for Millicent C LAINCHBURY in the next census you will find her in Wednesbury, Staffordshire.

Then a Clara M LAINCHBURY marries John BIRCH in 1946 in Wednesbury, this registration district was created out of West Bromwich in 1932.

Here is a matching death,

Death
Clara Millicent BIRCH    Wolverhampton    Jan 1997
DOB:  6 December 1906

I think this is the death for 'your' Clara,

Clara M LAINCHBURY    1950    Weston-Super-Mare    7c  300
Age:  80

Regards,
Daisy

Hi Daisy,
This valued information of yours confirms to me that Walter and Clara Lainchbury moved from Northampton after he retired and that Clara died aged 80yrs in1950 and Walter died aged 84yrs on 5th. Setember 1955 and both were buried in Weston-super-Mare.

Thanks to you and all others to help me conclude my search.

Best wishes............David.
