Direct reference search on Ancestry
« on: Thursday 23 December 10 20:23 GMT (UK) »
Does any Rootschatter know if it is possible to do a search on Ancestry if you know the Reference and folio number?

I want to look at the inhabitants of St James St, Bath which is reference HO107/1943 Folio 409-411 but it seems almost impossible to do this search as Ancestry input feilds are geared towards personal data.

I browsed through images last week for a similar search but this is really time consuming.

Hoping someone can help.

Thanks

Amy

Hi Amy,

Yes, you can do this - you have to go to the search page for the individual census year and place, though...i.e.  choose the search page for the 1841 or 1851 (whichever it is) England or Wales census.  You'll see the reference boxes at the bottom of the search window.

Hope that helps - and that I've explained it adequately!  ;D

Cheers
Prue

Oh, and you may need to select "old search" too.

I had real trouble finding how to do this, I was using 'New Search'.  If you're in New Search then there's a link to 'Old Search' on the right hand side of the screen just below the banner  :)

Ah ha! Good old 'Old Search' much better in my opinion.

Thanks Pauline, this worked a treat. Family not there, but at least I'm certain. :)
