Ephraim Francis was an English convict, pardoned in February 1844. He sailed from Launceston in Tasmania in March 1852 to Melbourne, Vic. on the ship Tamar and died in Melbourne, aged 38, in the same year. I'm trying to find out where he was and what he was doing between 1844 and 1852. Any ideas, please?

Hi bettsboys,
Ephraim's conditional pardon was approved on 21 September 1847, not Feb 1844. Links to his digitised online records were given by cando in previous posts. If you have trouble reading them, have a look at this link which is helpful for abbreviations used in the records.

Many thanks, Cando and Debra, for taking the time to find Ephraim for me.
You're right, Debra, I should have said that he was given his Ticket-to-Leave in 1844.
Can you help me on the page 4 entry though, please, as I'm having trouble spotting him!

Hi bettsboys,
Here is a direct link to page 4 - I hope this is what you are referring to, his name should be highlighted in pink.

Thanks so much for your help, Debra. I was going cross-eyed trying to pick out Ephraim, who was my 3xgreat grandfather, and it all adds to the picture of him.
Merry Christmas and a Happy 2011.
Jen.
