Ruabon look up please
« on: Tuesday 21 December 10 21:25 GMT (UK) »
If anyone could do a look up for me I would be most grateful.  My GG grandmother was Eliza Evans born around 1818 in Ruabon according to census information.  She named her father as Edward Evans a joiner, on her marriage certificate.

I would like to know her birth details and anything about her family.

Hello Annabel :)

Welcome to Rootschat.

The nearest baptism that I can find in the Ruabon parish records is of an Elizabeth Evans, baptised 18 October 1818. parents are given as Edward (labourer) and Frances Evans of Brynn.

Wow, that was quick, thank you!  Can you see a marriage for Edward and Frances or any other children please.

Hi

I've had a look and that seems to be the only entry for them  :-\

I'll check the non-conformist records just in case.

I've been thinking that they might be in one of the adjacent parishes - Llangollen, etc.

I'm not sure if I can check these registers at the moment as i've got a lot on but hope womeone else might.

If not, I could look in the New Year.

Thank you for checking.  If you get a chance to check the next door parish in the New Year, that would be great.  I suppose they did move around a bit, especially after getting married and starting a family. Perhaps they outgrew their parents house. I know Evans is a common name in Wales, how popular was the name Edward?  I'm just wondering how likely it is that this is my Eliza...

Hi again

I've checked Llangollen for what I thought was the relevant time span but can't find anything. I'd like to have a look at her on the censuses to see if there are any clues before looking at other parishes. Could you tell me who she married and where they were on the censuses, please.

There were quite a few Edward Evans.

Hi,

She married John Kegg from the Isle of Man in 1842 in Liverpool.  I have her in the 1851 census as living at 1 Eldon Street, Birkenhead aged 31.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Annabel
