I have found one, but the age is 12 in 1901.    Address is 44 Heriot Street, Kirkdale.   But probably not the right age.   I will have a look  at the other few possibilities in a moment.

Thanks very much!   - and too for the info on West Derby.  I'd had a look at Google maps for the present place of West Derby - but interesting to know it was a larger area.  The Crosby surname does sound like it could place it quite soundly in Liverpool historically doesn't it?  :)

I have found  a 15 year old female on the 1901 census.  address 19 Albert street, Warrington.

Her father is John Crosby  and the family had 10 children in 1901. Fathers occupation was Carter for Wire Works.

Margaret crosby was shown as being born in the Garston registration district

That's interesting - think it sounds like the same one Margaret spotted earlier - if so, the wife was Mary J, and although I may be clutching at straws here, but one of the children (possibly) born to William Brown and Margaret Crosby was Mary J too.
Is there any possibility you could give me any more details (names/ages) from the 1901? No worries if you don't have time/inclination.
Thanks anyhow  :)

The marriage was in Liverpool in the October to December quarter 1908  and reference numbers 8b  and page  110   if you want to order a copy of the Marriage certificate.

Ooooh - this is exciting stuff!    I just checked back through my friends email and the only other piece of random information she'd thrown in was the mention of the surname 'Rabbit' (she had no idea to whom it belonged) and some connection way back with Ireland.

Anyhow, just checked on the John Crosby & wife Mary J you gave me and found a marriage in Dec quarter 1880 in Warrington of a John Crosby to a Mary Jane RABBITT.

Seems like we may well have stumbled on the right family after all.
Thanks very much to both of you :) :)
