I've had a look on the 1911 census and there are only two Margaret Brown's born 1886 both living West Derby so if we can identify a child's name I will see if it fits with the mother's info.

If we can narrow it down it might be worth the £3 to see the page.

Mmm... there's problem with that.  My friend only knows that her mum (Margaret J Brown, born West Derby Dec 1822) was one of 9 children.  The only details she has is that one of the brothers was named Robert (born Dec 1923) [- he was the last child and the one who the mother died over].
The only other names she knew was that one was called Cyril and another named Jane (might have been Mary Jane).

I've found 9 children named Brown, born to a mother named Crosby in FreeBMD -
(*)
All registered in West Derby with the exception of one who was registreed in Liverpool

No knowing for certain that they're all from the same family of course!

I can see your dilemma I think that the only thing now is to resort to the MC to find her father's name so we can be sure I have the right ones on the censuses.

Yes I think you're right Margaret.  I'll have to persuade her to send for the cerificate I think.
Many thanks for your time and thoughts on this one!
Happy Christmas! :)

Hi

According to LancashireBMD Margaret Crosby and William Brown were married in 1908 at Liverpool, Our Lady & St. Nicholas & St. Anne, The church records would I think be at the Liverpool Record Office if anyone can visit.

Ooo, thanks for this extra info Andy.   Hadn't thought to look for a Lancs BMD (all this is a bit off my usual patch!).

I had a look earlier and it only gives the year, Freebmd says the marriage was in the 4th quarter 1908.

I tried looking for their children on Lancashirebmd but there are so many it's impossible to be sure of any names.

I was just taking a look at LancsBMD too.  They don't include the mother's maiden name like they do in FreeBMD do they?  Like you say, so many Brown baptisms in there!

The death was registered in Liverpool. Their children look to have been born in West Derby from FreeBMD.

Up until   about 1923 the West Derby registration district  covered a big geographical area (different from what is called West Derby today).

The Borough of Crosby  was a sub district of the West Derby registration district.
