My new line of enquiry is to learn more about Kathrine MENZIES
parents & siblings please & John McL (husband) & their children.

All I have is Kathrine married John McLACHLAN on ?, where? and they had a son also John b: 03 Sep 1801 bap: 06 Sep 1801 in Moulin, Perth, Scotland.

Sorry I haven't more at this stage to give you.

There are two on the family search web site

Katharine Menzies to John Mclaughlan 17 Jan 1795 Moulin, Perth, Scotland and the other the same but put as Blair Athol, Perth, Scotland.

Have you discounted those ones?

Make life easier for yourself.

Go to www.borenich.co.uk and you will be able to look up the Blair Atholl marriage for 17th January 1795.  This will tell you where the bride and groom were living at the time of their wedding.  Other weddings linked to these places may be of siblings.

Whilst waiting for the snow to melt I found the following:

From the Borenich site it is clear the Mclachlans lived at Trean which at one time was in Moulin Parish but is now in Blair Atholl.It was a farm on the Strathgarry estate.John and his sister Christian married in to the Menzies family at Aldclune which is just across the river from Trean.
The Blair Militia List for 1798 shows a John,Fergus and Alexander McLachlan living at Strathgarry.
John McLachlan of Trean who married Katharine Menzies of Aldclune in 1795 had John(b1801)and Fergus (b1807)
John McLachlan Bucklemaker in Dundee married Margaret Scott in Moulin 1834
Fergus McLachlan Spirit Dealer Dundee married Betsey Menzies in Dundee 1838(1841 census says he was born in Perthshire)
In addition Alexander McLachlan of Dundee married Isabel Menzies of Aldclune in Blair Atholl in 1835 but he was probably the son of John and Janet Menzies m1798 who was born in 1799.
The 1798 Militia List shows John and Fergus Menzies at Aldclune.Their marriages are on the Borenich site

After reading carefully what Cambron posted on Tues 21 10, 17:00 I saw that John McLachlan b: 1801 married Margaret SCOTT in Moulin 1834 so I'm terribly sorry but it appears I have given you all John 1801's incorrect parents. 

Below I have pasted what I had posted on my McLauchlan forum in the hope something may come to light.

John McLAUCHLAN (snr) born 1801 Dunkeld, Perthshire, Scotland, who came to NZ on the "Cornubia" in 1855, passed away 21 February 1883.  He is buried in the family plot in the Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln, Canterbury, New Zealand, with his daughter Ann and her husband David DUNN and their daughter Marjory NAIRN.

John was blind & also deaf before his demise.

## John McLauchlan snr (R01) was a ploughman in North Muirton of Perth  in the period 1825 - 1836 when four children were born to him & his wife.

As you can all see there is still proof to be found about John snr & Marjerys' (wife) parents.

Pity about the wild goose chase.

The Dunkeld birth isn't on SP.Where did the date come from?

The 1841 Census in Cargill shows the family as McLauchlan.The daughter May is 8 not 5.If the couple married in 1824, as you say,the mother's age (30) has been significantly reduced!

Regarding the mother she is sometimes May and sometimes Mey but more interestingly for the birth of her fist child,Ann, her surname is Mill,for the next two it is Milne and then she reverts to Mill.The latter is what is on her death certificate in Kilspindie.(21.11.1850)

I reckon she was Mey Mill born to John Mill and Ann McGregor in Perth 1799.
The naming of the eldest daughter fits with Scottish convention
