Hi Ev. As far as I know, David stayed in Scotland. His son William born 1845 in Scone, my ancestor, married Agnes Scobie in 1874 also in Scone. So at least by 1874 it seems they were still in Scotland. Some short time after that William and Agnes moved to near Manchester, where two of their three daughters were born. Their last daughter was born in Hunslet, Yorkshire, where William died in 1884. He was listed as a "timekeeper" on the 1881 census, probably at one of the mills nearby.
William's middle daughter Isabella was my great-grandmother. She was born in Patrycroft, Lancashire in 1878. At some point, probably not long after William died, the family seems to have moved back to Scotland. That's where Isabella met and married William Speed. Their first three children were all born in Scotland. They emigrated to the States in 1909, to Massachusetts.
I have no date of death for either of the Davids, father or son. The one you wrote of earlier Ev, in 1852, is very likely the father, but right now I can't be sure. David was such a common name with the Galletlys, it makes it doubly tough.
Cambron, thanks for the reply, I have that info also. Problem for me is I have a ScotlandsPeople account, but right now with the economy here in Montana being as it is, getting copies from them is not in the budget. For a while at least I have to limit myself to what I can find elsewhere. I've found plenty of possibles there, but the listing doesn't tell enough, I'd need to see the original, and well, you know how
expensive that can be.
