Thanks Marna, I will send you a message in a day or two.
Matilda Sampson was the last surviving child of Stephen Sampson and Elizabeth née Rutter. (I think they were cousins who married.)  She died aged 90 and neither she nor any of her siblings married or had children, hence her will dispersing her estate among the children of numerous deceased cousins.  See the transcription of a family memorial here (number 61a)
http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Libr/MIs/MIsRamsgate/01.htm
My ancestor was Edward Charles Rutter one of the sons of Edward Sampson Rutter by his first wife.  When I get time I will post on the web what I have found about the beneficiaries of her will and post a link here.

Hello John and others

Just seen yr post. Very interested in any information on the Matilda Sampson will. I've surmised that the named beneficiary Judith Folkes (nee Reynolds) is the daughter of a Joseph Reynolds and a Susannah Lamb who married in Dover in 1771. The Lamb name recurs in the will, but I confess myself stumped as to how they are all related to Matilda! I've also assumed that Sarah Rockett and Joseph Reynolds are siblings of Judith and thus children of the above Joseph and Susannah.

Much obliged for any information on these people.

Best regards from Manchester

Hi, I'm new to the forum and just found this thread. Emma and Jonathon wee my Gt Gt Gt Grandparents. According to my family tree they were married at St Mary de Lode, Worcestershire on 11th December 1823. This church shows as being in Gloucestershire now so not sure if the county changed or it is a mistake. A

Hi Annie,
Jonathan and Emma were my 3x great grandparents as well... I'm descended from their son William (b1833), who emigrated to Canada in 1858.  I've not been able to find any official record of their marriage, so am very interested in the source of your info re St Mary de Lode on 11 Dec 1823.  The only reference I've found so far is as mentioned in the thread above: The New Monthly Magazine and Literary Journal - Vol X11 of 1824 which states only that they were married at "Sa. John's, Worcester", which I assumed was St Johns Parish.

Which of Jonathan and Emma's children is your ancestor?  Look forward to hearing from you,
Marna

Hi Annie,

The church St Mary de Lode is not just in Gloucestershire but actually in Gloucester city itself.

Here is a record of the parish register entry:

The very next record, Emma's sister two days later:

Thanks to Marna (Ruthmez) for putting together all the research on Richard and Judith Folkes and their ten children which I have uploaded here:

I've also updated the Reynolds page with Marna's discoveries about Reynolds & sons, playing card makers.

This looks like the source of the Worcestershire connection, from "New Monthly Magazine", Feb, 1824:

A couple of pages earlier under Glooucestershire:

It would seem that a marriage was listed under the county either because of the venue ("At Kidderminster"), or the origin of one of the parties ("of Broadway") - not both.

Thank you everyone, there's some very interesting information there, I'm very grateful to you all. My nephew researched our family tree, I checked with him and you are correct Johninsussex, that was his source of info. My gt gt Grandfather was  John Dobbins who called himself Fred, he married Ann Bennett, which coincidentally was my maiden name. His son Frederick moved to Birmingham and was a steeplejack, he fell off Saltley gas works in 1907 and died. My Grandad John Dobbins (known as Fred) eventually lived in Birmingham and my Mom and Dad lived with him and his wife Gertrude when I was born. My Mom was one of eleven born to Fred and Gert. A
