Emma Folkes: Broadway/Kidderminster
« on: Saturday 18 December 10 20:39 GMT (UK) »
Looking for family info for Emma Folkes who married Jonathan Dobbins of Broadway at Kidderminster in 1824.
1851 Census shows her born in Ireland, British Subject c 1805.
I have found Richard Folkes and family in Broadway, in 1841 Census, but cannot connect Emma.

Any insight will be much appreciated!

Thanks for your quick response to my post, Jim1212!

Jonathan and Emma Dobbins' son William (age 7 in the 1841 Census) was my g-g-grandfather who came to Canada in 1857.

I assume that Richard Folkes of Broadway must be a relative of Emma's, but have not been able to find a connection.

I'm hoping that someone with knowledge of the Folkes family in Broadway can provide a clue, or that perhaps one may exist in the Kidderminster marriage records for 1824...!?!?

What makes you think there is a Kidderminster connection.

At google books, in a volume entitled "The New Monthly Magazine and Literary Journal - Vol XII - Historical Collection" London. Printed for Henry Colburn, New Burlington Street, 1824 ... I found a list of marriages at Kidderminster in 1824, including "Mr. J. Dobbins of Broadway, to Miss E. Folkes"

I live in Kidderminster, and the only marriages for that time I have come across in the local library would be St Mary's church.

Hi Lisa,

The link to this is extremely long and I'm not sure how to attach it here, so go to http://books.google.ca and in the search window enter New Monthly Magazine 1824 Vol XII

The specific reference I quoted is on page 95.

Hope this works for you,
Ruthmez
