Decipher a word, please.

Cannot read a word that appears several times on a 1871 cencus: looks like "Emeral(d)" dealer?

Thanks for that - what threw me was on the 4th and 6th last entries the words look like "dealer" (does not look like "domestic" even - maybe just poor handwriting?). Come to think of it maybe they were just 'General Dealers' of goods ?

I agree, I read it as general dealer too.... :)

There's a "General Servant" at the top of that clip, and then "General dealers" further on :)

...now I know what my (x3) Grandmother was doing (Sussanah Alden of Bristol) - interesting; throughout the cencuses she is doing different things; anything to make ends meet in those days, I guess.
