Katowice archives - http://www.katowice.ap.gov.pl - hold Roman Catholic records for this town but apparently no Jewish ones.

This means that records are probably at the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw. See

Hi,

I am new to RootsChat.  I am also searching for Lauber from Chrzanow.  Specifically, I am interested in information about my gg-grandfather Zelig Leib/Lewek Lauber who must have been born in the last quarter of the 19th century.  The information that I have is that he had three daughters, though none of whom was Rosalie.

Thank you.
Leah

Hi there,
I am not sure if the Rosalie Lauber I have on my family tree is from the same family as the one your researching. I have provided some information as provided by me by a Gisela Blume, a German Jew who has carried out extensive research into the Jewish community of Furth, in Oberfranken und Mittelfranken, Bavaria, Germany, and  made transcriptions of all the headstones in the New Jewish Cemetery there.

Rosalie (Rosa) Lauber was born 16 April 1893 and her parents were Shalom Lauber and Taube Rosenbaum.
On 29 Dec 1919 Rosa married Benno Spindler in Eger, Hungary.
Benno was born 18 August 1895 in Ustrzyk Dolne, Poland and died of natural causes on 17 Feb 1932 in Fuerth, Germany. His occupation was an agricultural merchant.

On 25 November 1941 Rosalie committed suicide in her apartment at No.3 Hindenburgstrasse,Fuerth, to avoid being taken away by the Nazis. [I have some records from the Holocaust Memorbuch, also a letter of testimonial, and also photographs of the gravestones of both Benno and Rosa]

Benno and Rosa had three children (There may be others I am unaware of, but don't think so):(*)

[I have a letter dated 27 June 1939 from the German Jewish Aid Committee, in London, concerning the extraction of (Rosa's son) from the Fuerth Jewish Orphanage. It is addressed to one David Makofski who was working to obtain apprenticeships for young Jewish refugees. The letter mantioned placing (*) with Rakusens, a Leeds company of kosher food manufacture.

I know that in Leeds Family History Library there are the papers of David Makofski, though I have yet to visit to see these. Moreover there are documents in the Jerusalem Central Archives (Ref: D/Fu2 No.352) mentioning (*) and which may also have further information on Rosa. I contacted Jerusalem but it would have cost me about £30 for copies of the documents. I declined as the Spindler/Lauber name is fairly incidental to the main lines of my tree.

If you think what I have given you here is relevant, and you would like copies of the documents, photos, etc that I have, then if you let me have your email address and shall send them as attachments.
I hope this helps. Likewise, if this is the same family then I would be very interested in anything additional that you might be able to send me.
Regards

Howard

Hi,

Thank you for your detailed reply, but there is nothing familiar in the information that you mentioned.  I see no connection at all (at this point anyway).

Thanks again.
