Shipping Records for Ship "PERSIA" arrived 1857
« on: Thursday 16 December 10 10:17 GMT (UK) »
I have seen it written that my Gr. Grandmother Eliza MAYNE came to Australia on the "PERSIA" to Victoria in 1857.  Would anyone have the records for that ship, and be prepared to share them with me.  I have looked, but they don't seem to just pop up.

Also in the same writings, it was said that there was a EUDEY family on the "PERSIA" also on that date.  I have seen a piece on a Mr. Edward Eudey which says he came on that ship.

My Eliza MAYNE was the daughter of Eliza Mayne nee Eudey.  I have never been able to find her on a ship even though I did find some of her siblings on different ships.  Her parents and gandparents all ended up going to USA.

Here she is:
Eliza Mayne, 23, (Book 12, page 372)
Arrival 27 Jul 1857, Geelong.
Departed Plymouth  aboard the  Persia

This is on the PROV site for assisted passengers.  There should be more info on the record.  Cannot see anyone with surname EUDEY on the Persia.  There is a family arr 1841 from Liverpool on the Francis.

Hi there,

Arriving 28 Nov 1841 to NSW on the Frances/Francis  is an EUDEY family (could be mis-transcribed as CADEY, but alphabetical order of surnames seems to place them as EUDEY). The colony of NSW in 1841 included Victoria at that time.
The passenger list for that 1841 voyage is online  ;)
http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/guides-and-finding-aids/nrs-lists/nrs-5316#the-list-of-ships
scroll down list (its in chronological order), and Eudey is on page 1 of 4 for the Frances' passenger list.

Fingers crossed, Cheers,  JM

Thank you for the information so far.  I have just noticed that the piece I had said the family was actually under Edward ENDEY and not Eudey

Can you please advise me as to where you would see the record for this entry for Eliza Mayne.  I live in Queensland.

Sabrina, you may be able to see the films of the records at your State library.

I can have a look when I next go to the Natinal Library but that won't be till late next week or maybe not till after Christmas now.

Someone else may be able to help before that.

Are we looking for ENDEY or EUDEY? I can't see anything for either name, apart from the one who aeeived 1841.

Judith

I used the provic site you sent, and bought up the whole ship.  The name is spelt Eadey on the records.   Which is why one has to check any information before accepting it.

My Eliza Mayne also belongs to the EUDEY family, but I don't know if she was related to this chap on the ship.  Isn't it strange that about five of the Maynes siblings mostly came out on different ships way back in the 1850's   How brave they were.

Good find Sabrina!  You're right - one needs to check everything.

Will have a look at the films for you but, as I said, the silly season means I mighn't get to it for a couple of weeks.  ;D
