O'Brien in Coalisland, Co Tyrone
« on: Wednesday 15 December 10 15:53 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I was hoping someone may be able to help me. I am trying to find out about my paternal grandmother's family who came from Ireland. I have been estranged from my father all my life so have no-one to ask!

I have obtained my grandmother's death cert which says she was born on 12th Feb 1922 in Coalisland, Co Tyrone (I had always been led to believe the family was from Donegal).

Her name was Mary Ann O'Brien. I do not have her birth cert, however, I have her marriage cert to James Lowe in Scotland (1953)which states that her father was Barney O'Brien and mother was Mary (possible maiden name) Casey. It says her father was a shopkeeper.

The witnesses addresses are listed as being in Donegal on her marriage cert so I am wondering if she was born in Tyrone and then the family moved to Donegal.

Also, Barney could possibly be Bernard, as I my uncle (one of Mary's sons) is called Barney and his real name is Bernard.

If anyone has any info on her parents, birth or anything connected with my grandmother I would be ever so grateful, I live in England so it is hard for me to find info.

Thank you

Kelshan

Hi,
Kelshan, welcome to Roots Chat. I have found a record of a Bernard O'Brien who married Mary Ann Casey in Londonderry Roman Catholic Church ( possibly Long Tower Church), Londonderry City on 28 Jul 1912.

Kelshan,
No further info but if you order the marriage certificate it will give the residences of the bride and groom at the time they got married and the fathers' names.
