Chilvers Coton lookup
« on: Wednesday 15 December 10 14:05 GMT (UK) »

Can anyone look up the following records:

1. Sarah White who was christened on 05 March 1780 in Chilvers Coton, Warwick to Charles and Mary (Kinder) White.

2. Sarah White married William Pottinger 06 May 1804 in Chilvers Coton.

Any information on this family is most appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Diane

I'm Jim White and I'm researching Whites in this village of the same era (oldest direct ancestor is William White b. 1806). There's an 1781 Parish census that shows your family living at Heath End. IGI results can be linked to them.

These are my notes, hope they help...

Charles White b.1755 married Mary b.1751
They had at least 5 children:
  Mary b.1775 d.1775
  Mary b.1777 alive in 1781
  Sarah b.1779, c.1780
  Hanah c.1782
  David c.1787

Charles White had a sister, Mary White b.1761 and was alive in 1781

Thats all I have, sorry. Jim

Hi Jim,

Thank you so much for the information.  My direct Pottinger ancestor is a William Pottinger (born and raised in East Ilsley, Berkshire) who married a Sarah ??? and their child was a son William Pottinger born in Cork, Ireland in 1805 (William Pottinger left Berkshire and went into the army in 1804 or so).  I am interested in finding the Sarah he married, so I was interested in getting all the information on the Sarah White and William Pottinger marriage record in Chilvers Coton that seems to fit the best so far for some possible clues.  Do you have any access to the marriage records in the Chilvers Coton area?

On another note, if your direct ancestor, William White (b. 1806), is the son of David White, you might be interested to know that David's mother, Mary (Kinder) White is from the Kinder family who lived in the area (on the same street no less) all the way back to the 1400s and beyond.  I have an article on this Kinder family if you are interested.

Thank you again,

Diane

Glad I could help a bit.

Sorry, I don't have access to the local marriage records. Someone in the local family history society kindly found one for my William White when they visited the county records. However, I have just noticed that some are beginning to appear on-line in summary form. An example is ...  www.hunimex.net/warwick/bmd/

I have got stuck on my William, although I have found hundreds of Whites to the side and backwards in time in Chilvers Coton. Just cannot find anything about his birth. He's also missing in the 1861 census, as are almost all of his children. Then they pop up again in 71.

I'm impressed that you can trace one strand back to 1400s. It seems that about 100 families in Warwickshire can claim 500-600 years of continuous residence, including the Whites (but not yet my one !)

If I find anything about your Whites I'll pass the info on.

Good hunting, Jim

Hi Diane,

My name is Steve and I have been following the maternal line of my family tree which has lead me to Chilvers Coton.   Two of my ancestors were Francis Kinder born 1682 and his wife, Ann Elizabeth Parker also born 1682.   Francis' parents were Francis Kinder and Ann Swart.

I noticed on the above post you advised that you have an article on the Kinders, would it be possible to ask you any information that you may know of the Kinders?

Many thanks,

Steve
