Lewis & Mary Rigby
« on: Sunday 12 December 10 23:18 GMT (UK) »
While trying to track an elusive ancestor, I came across Lewis & Ann Rigby. whose children were Margaret, b1804; Betty, b 1806; Ann, b 1808; Rachel, b 1810; James. b 1812; Alice, b 1814; Peter b 1815.  All were born at Farnworth near Prescot and baptized at St Wilfreds.
I am interested specifically in Peter and would like to know his movements during his adult life - did he migrate to Australia?
Anyone who has this family in their tree is welcome to contact me with any information.
Many thanks and a Merry Christmas to all.  8)

Thanks, Carole. I had seen that on IGI. My problem is I have no documentation (marriage or death regs) for Peter so am flying blind, so to speak.  I was interested in this particular Peter as my Peter named two of his four children Margaret Alice & Rachel. Surely not a coincidence?  Will keep searching other avenues.
Cheers.

My Peter emigrated to Australia on SS Great Britain in 1852.
At the moment, I'm looking to see if there's a death for Mary Rigby (his wife) before 1852.
Cheers.

I'm fairly sure Peter and Mary Ann stayed in England: although he is very vague about his age, Peter's occupation is "blacksmith" on all censuses and their birthplaces remain the same:

1871
RG10/3867/6/6 - 1 Worsley Brow Court, Sutton, St Helens, Lancs
Peter RIGBY - Head - 65 - Blacksmith - Bold, Lancs
Mary A RIGBY - Wife - 63 - Warrington, Lancs
Sarah RIGBY - Sister-in-law - Wid - 70 - Annuitant - Warrington, Lancs
Peter RIGBY - Grandson - 6 - Scholar - St Helens, Lancs

1881
RG11/3739/116/8 - 90 Sutton Rd, Sutton, St Helens, Lancs
Peter RIGBY - Head - 62 - Blacksmith - Bold, Lancs
Mary Ann RIGBY - Wife - 73 - Warrington, Lancs
Peter RIGBY - Grandson - 16 - Apprentice Boiler Maker - Sutton, Lancs
