The Jamieson Family: Alexander or Jack Jamieson?
« on: Sunday 12 December 10 15:59 GMT (UK) »
I am researching - or rather attempting to research the Jamieson family from Londonderry and in particular I am seeking to investigate an Alexander Jamieson who married a Martha Sterling (daughter of John Sterling and Elizabeth Steele?) in County Derry in either 1895 or 1902. I know absolutely nothing about Alexander Jamieson or his family except that he may have been a Protestant and that he may have had a son or a grandson called Jack Jamieson. I can find no trace of Alexander or Martha Sterling on the 1901 or the 1911 Irish Census records and also nothing on the Scottish Census records. I know absolutely nothing about Alexander Jamieson and I am not even sure if Jamieson is a popular Derry name or if he even came from the city. I can also find no wedding certificate for Alexander and Martha so if anyone can help me find the certificate so I can find out the name’s of Alexander’s parents it would be brilliant. Thank you.

Sorry, in case anyone points out, I have already tried to contact the other three posters on here who would appear to be related to me via the Sterling's but they also no nothing about the Jamieson's so I thought it best to post my own topic.

See that you also started a thread on Scotland-General board looking for the same people and some information has been posted-

Hi,
Have belatedly looked at the Scottish board and noticed that Alexander may have had a brother called George. Doing a parent search on the IGI I found an Alexander Jamieson born to William Jamieson and Jane Key in Londonderry City on 18 Feb 1871. I also found that a George Jamieson was born to a William Jamieson and Jane McKey on 12 Aug 1865. The parish for both was Glendermot.
William Jamison (sic) married Jane Key on 26 Nov 1864 in St. Columbs Church of Ireland, Londonderry City.

Kingskerswell: Thank you very much for so very kindly helping me in regards to Alexander and Martha, it is very much appreciated!  :)

As you can imagine, I am delighted to discover so much information on a very obscure branch of our family tree and your kind work and help has been absolutely invaluable. Thank you very much!
 :)

Hi
Just noticed. My 3 Jan 1870 birth should have read Martha and not Elizabeth. Two siblings for Martha were Margaret Jane b.30 Jan 1868 and Edward b.1872, both in Londonderry City. For the three births the mother is Bessy Steel, Eliza Steel and Elizabeth Steel (Sometimes with the extra "e")
