Wealdstone Electoral Roll LU required 1928
« on: Saturday 11 December 10 20:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I'm researching a friend's tree for her and she has no idea of her dad's family, having lost her parents almost 30 years ago.

I've managed to find her father's birth certificate but it appears his parents weren't married, and both their surnames aren't uncommon so I don't have any clues to work on from that.

My friend's dad was born in November 1928, and the mother's address is shown as 8 Tudor Road, Wealdstone. Her name was Jane Lawrence. The father's name was Douglas Wood, but there is no address specifically shown for him.

Does anyone have any access to the Electoral Roll for this year for Wealdstone?

Any help much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Sally (Buckinghamshire)

Hello Sally

If what you say is correct ie Douglas's birth Nov 1928.....he was born (or should have been) in the Dec qtr of 1928 within the Huddersfield R.D, Yorkshire and his mother's maiden name was Aldridge or Speight (they might be the same person?) is that correct

and if his parents did marry they might be

Henry Wood married Eva M Aldridge in the June qtr of 1923, Huddersfield R.D 9A, 659

It doesn't appear that any Douglas Wood has died 1980 onwards that has been born in November 1928! .....so please explain

However you seem to have other information on his birth?

As for the Electoral Roll if you find the local history centre for Wealdstone, they will hold the electoral roll information and might be accomodating in helping you find him?

I may be able to help with Wealdstone electoral rolls, later in the week.
My old school pal who lives near the Harrow library is running a marathon in Majorca at the moment ,but I'm sure he'll nip round to the library if I ask him nicely ;D

Watch this space......

Pm me if you need anything else?

Many thanks, Bryant, Jennifer and Carol.

Bryant - Douglas Wood is my friend's grandfather and he died in 1958 - making his birth year about 1895. There are a few men of that name born in that year, but I have nothing to say what his father's name was so I wouldn't know which one was him if I bought the certificates. Hence, the no marriage situation being really annoying.

Jennifer has the right birth information, he was born in Marylebone at the Queen Charlottes Hospital. I think their records are at the LMA and am keeping that option on a back burner as I'm not certain that they would actually hold anything that would help us.

Carol - It would be greatly appreciated if your friend could nip into the library as I'm hoping that the address will give me information on family living there, as opposed to it just being a rented address with no other links.
Many, many thanks,
Sally

Hi

The LMA does hold the records for the Queen Charlotte Hospital but for this period it seems only the admission and discharge registers

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/hospitalrecords/details.asp?id=713&hospital=queen+charlotte&town=&searchdatabase.x=51&searchdatabase.y=10

From those records you should get an address and the age of mother and her occupation.
It might be worth checking with the LMA itself to see whether they hold earlier patient clinical records.

Thank you, Valda.

The birth certificate mentions that the mother has no occupation, so even if there is that on their books it would be something else to know  ;)

Has anyone searched these sort of records at the LMA? Is it all stored on microfiche, or would it be the origianl papers that we get to see?

Many thanks again,
Sally

Hello Sally

I thought your friend's dad was named Douglas and he was born 1928, my apologies....

My friend's dad was born in November 1928, and the mother's address is shown as 8 Tudor Road, Wealdstone. Her name was Jane Lawrence. The father's name was Douglas Wood, but there is no address specifically shown for him

Two Douglas W Wood's died in the Sep qtr of 1958, one in Harrow R.D and one in Surrey Mid E R.D both aged 63! (is it the same Douglas?)
Harrow and Wealdstone are much the same place so Harrow must be favourite.

So.......based on the info above Douglas was born in the Sep qtr of 1895 in either Fulham or Watford and the W stands for Walter or William?

Please don't apologise, Bryant.

The message was written whilst still in the depths of dismay and wasn't worded as well as it could have been.

Thanks for your investigations on my behalf, the gesture is still much appreciated.
