Hi
My name is Rona Edwards (nee Dawson). Mary Ann Bishop was my great grandmother. She married James Dawson. They had a son Fred my grandfather. I have been trying to find out more about both family's. Any information or copy certificates would be most helpful.

Kind regards
Rona

Hi Rona,

Another member of the Bishop clan! I haven't done that much research into my Charlotte's siblings but I have Mary Ann's marriage to James Dawson in 1870. She had 3 illegitimate children that I know of before the marriage: Thomas in 1861, Emily Jane in 1864 and Agnes in 1866.

James Dawson was married previously and must have been widowed as they had some of his children by his first wife living with them on the 1871 census and afterwards. You probably already have the family on the 1871-1901 censuses in Sutton?

I did find a Bastardy Examination for Mary Ann's father George Bishop's birth in 1816 to Rebecca Bishop naming his father so there may be more to find.

If Tracy and 2Tone are still on Rootschat and get notification of this post, I'd be interested to know if they've made any inroads into the 'Did George Bishop go to America?' puzzle. I haven't! Not through want of trying!!!!  ::)
