CURGENVEN - anyone heard of this name ?

While searching the Philp family tree in Cornwall, there is an event where Edward Philp married Frances Curgenven in 1766 in Cornwall, UK, Francis was one of eight children of Peter Curgenven

However I note some details to be incorrect on the Shaw family tree.

My G3 Grandmother is Frances Curgenven, married to George Gay in the 1700 s in Veryan, Cornwall, UK .

Okay I have just read the posts, and I have been intrigued by the note that this name was made up by the Bishop of Exeter (?) but also I had seen that the name was connected with the ship the "Bounty".

My interest came from researching the Philp/ Philpe Family of my wife`s Mother and as someone has already advised, Peter Curgenven bpt 1712 married Jane Langdon bpt 1714 on May 1st 1766 in Veryan & had 8 children including Frances bpt 1739 who married Edward Philp.
I note the web site: cornwall-opc has 18 Curgenven`s in the churchyard but there does not seem to be any record in the 1500`s, this web site is Fantastic & is leading the way in the Uk (from my experience) opc stands for online parish clerks.
If anyone is interested last year I had a Philp headstone relocated back to the Veryan cemetery and refitted it to its original location.

My wife`s FT starts with Walteri Philpe (no bpt) but marriage 20th Oct 1566 this goes down to Edward Philp bpt about 1736 but to to his 5th child John Philp bpt 15th Aug 1775, then to Peter Blamey Philp bpt 1st April 1804.
At present I am updating my wifes other FT the Lean/ Leane and so I can not recall the line down off the top of my head as the Philp FT has been widened to include as many branches as possible. This has at present 364 persons on the FT.
If this is of interest to you we will need to comunicate somehow ?

In my son's line I have Henry Hosking and Blanch Curgenven marrying 24 March 1766 at Uny Lelant.
Does anyone have information on Blanch?

Regarding the marriage of Peter Curgenven and Jane Langdon in Veryan in 1738. I believe they were my G5 Grandparents and had a daughter Frances who married my G4 Grandfather George Gay in 1751. This does not make sense. She is too young!
