Is anybody able to do some Roney lookups for Workington RC churches please?

Hi Dotty,
I can't help with the lookups sorry, but may be interested in the results also!

I have some Roneys of Cumberland in my tree as follows:

William Roney (married Catherine Carnaughan 12 Nov 1791, St Cuthbert, Carlisle, Cumberland - from familysearch)
children Anne, James, Thomas, Jane, Alexander

Thomas Roney (from above) born 1805 Carlisle, married Elleanor (Ellen)
children Catherine, Alexander, John, Hannah, Mary, William, Thomas

Thomas (from above) became Rennie rather than Roney, born 1850 Carlisle married Jane Hannon 21 Aug 1870, Manchester.
Their daughter Mary Jane Rennie (born 1872 Manchester) was my great grandmother.

Do any of them match up with yours?

Hi Mosher,

I'm wondering if Alexander Roney is my 3rd Great Grandfather.  I have him born around 1811 in Carlisle, Cumberland. A marriage to Mary Hamel in 1828 in Gretna Green, and possibly a second marriage to Jane Hodgson. 

I've found it difficult to obtain clear records about his 2nd marriage and birth of his children, as well as his parents or any siblings.

The Alexander that married Hammel is not my Alexander then as his (my Alexander) mother was Catherine. According to the above 1841 census, the one that married Mary, his mother was Ann.
