Chard area - BEAVIS/BEVIS/BEAVES William c1791-1839
« on: Friday 03 December 10 18:48 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help please? I've hit a brickwall!

William BE(A)VIS married Sarah LARCOMB at Thorncombe on 15 Jul 1832. His Parish of residence was stated as Chard. He  was buried at Chard on 29 Jan 1839 (recorded as BEAVES)

On Freereg.com, I have found a John, Mary and an Edmund BEAVIS all baptised around 1791, but no William. It's before Census, so I have no corroboration of Chard but no one meets the criteria in Dorset or Devon.

Please could someone advise?

With many thanks in advance

I'm a bit confused here.  According to the Chard St Mary's Parish Register, a William BEAVES buried at Chard 24 Jan 1839 was aged 75 and of Yeovil ....   ::)

I'm missing a burial for a Charles BEVIS/BAVIS, Coachman of the Exeter/London Defiance, who was killed instantaneously in a coaching accident at Buckland Hill [Combe St Nicholas Parish] in mid-November 1838 in respect of whom the Coroner did not formally complete registration of death until 10 months later.  These were the early days of civil registration, so those illustrious authors who have written accounts of the accident without reference to original sources have perpetuated myths on the year and circumstances that led to the accident.

Thanks dee-jay and "oh dear". I seemed to have latched onto a name rather than a person. Back to the drawing board. Many thanks for the info tho, even negative is useful. Best wishes
