1884 Stock Returns  (these were required to be lodged with the Police Magistrates etc ie CPS returns and there should be similar info somewheres in the NSW Legislative Council's records)

A chap named P Phillips at Dandaloo had 42,000 acres with 60 horses, 600 cattle, 5,550 sheep and NO pigs.

I noticed at least one larger property in different hands but also at Dandaloo on those returns... over 100,000 acres

Cheers, JM

It may be possible that the chap "P Phillips" was related as there were 5 sons to parents of Samuel Phillips b1797, however we do not have any of those details.

Will visit the Molong historical Museum this coming Monday (when it is open)
the name Wolombolong sounds interesting, Wallenbillen may well be the English version, however, with the attempt at sale of the property in 1863/64 it is recorded as "Wallenbillen" as seen in "Trove" paper clips.
I have asked the Bogan shire council, Molong council office, Narromine and Parkes, all without a win, Peak Hill near said location comes under Parkes,
all good fun trying to find stuff in history,,,thanks to all.

1884 Stock Returns to the Police
BELLS AND WHISTLES

MOLONG District

Post Town or Holding PARKES

Name of Holding Wallan Dillen

Occupier Susannah Phillips
Acreage 1740      Horses = 5;  Cattle = 550;  Sheep = 5,500;  Pigs = none

Occupier Saml Phillips
Acreage 640        Horses = 60;  Cattle = 50;  Pigs = 3

I think there's several HOLDINGS in the central west that various members of the Phillips family held and which they called Wallan Dillen or variations, but here's Samuel on 1 square mile at Wallan Dillen in 1884  :) and the nearest Post Town was Parkes  :)

NSW Government Gazette for the early years is online at the following link (yes that's the state library of Victoria,  :)  8) )  (from RChat Resources thread of course)

Susannah Phillips (nee Whitley) being Samuel's wife, the Whitley family also having a bit of history in the area, yes, I think she had an iron fist when it came to protecting business.

Flogged,

I have presumed you had gone through the NSW State Records with fine tooth comb, was there any clues on the land on the reels at Kingswood?

http://srwww.records.nsw.gov.au/indexsearch/keyname.aspx
2/7950 1172
PHILLIPS Samuel  covering the period 1844 to  1852

Also look for him on there on the 1841 Census (there's so little of that census extant, but HE's there !)

Also another spelling for Wallenbillen (on the State Archives keyword searching "phillips"  :D ):
PHILLIPS Sam
Residence: Bathurst
(Land in the district of) Wellington
Situated at Willenblein  :D
Date of Licence 04/02/1846 (I think this is critical date for the physical searching of title deeds)
Licence No. 1139

Fingers crossed at this is IT   :)

Cheers,  JM

This paper article is of the time, printed 19 Nov 1885,
spelling is "Wallenbillen" so I would keep it the same, but as we all know through history there is difficulty in reading some handwrittings, the varients we have seen on this wouold simply be the way a report or record holder has written it.
