fabulous thanks jimmijam!  Print all this off I think and go and have a wee sit down and a read and try to figure out if and how these people all fit together.

And I will find what happened to bleeding David Sandilands if its the end of me!  ;)

Ails,
There is someone on Borders FHS researching Sandilands the link can be found under Selkirk.  I have Sandilands from Fife in my tree and also on Genes there is a Michael Sandilands researching his tree and because of our connection through two marriages, I have contact with him and can send a message to him if you wish, but how am i going to connect the two of you together so you can talk, thats the question

Hello
I hope I can help with your David Sandilands!
His wife Christina and four of the children (Catherine, David, Christina and Peter) emigrated to New Zealand on the Jessie Readman, departing Glasgow on 15 July 1881 and arriving at Port Chalmers (Dunedin, NZ) on 25 October. I have found some information on the four children - marriages, their children etc, but this is still a work in progress for me!
My husband is descended from the youngest son, Peter, who was a bandmaster even though he was deaf. He moved to Tasmania, Australia then to NSW, Australia.
I've not yet found David in any shipping records, but assume that he had already moved to NZ before the 1881 Census. David died at Oamaru, New Zealand on 5 August, 1911, aged 79. I only just found the newspaper report last night!
His wife Christina died at Oamaru on 12 Mar, 1913. I have her death certificate.
I am holidaying in NZ next month, so will have a quick look to see if I can find anything else while I'm there.
Kind regards
Nola

Hi,

I just spotted this post :)

My husband is connected to the Sandilands of Fife and  back to Abernethy! His Grandmother was Christina Adamson Sandilands (1889 - 1974) and she married James Bain (1890-1976). Her Grandfather was her first ancestor from Abernethy John Sandilands (1823-1869).

Kind regards,
