Maureen I put this photo and have the original photo of this it was in with my husbands father's photo's he served in the Gordon Highlanders, unfortunately I don't know the rank of your ancestor at all but if you would like a copy of the photo I would gladly send you a copy.

Thanks for the reply .I was hoping someone with military knowledge could tell his rank.

I have copied the photo to my P C and will show it to family to get their opinion.
My uncle was killed in action July 1943
If you have other similar photos from the Gordon Highlanders I would like to see them please.
I have seen the others you posted here.

It's unlikely that the people in the photo are Gordon Highlanders, juding from their dress.

I think someone said on page 1 that it was Alamein Railway station.

The station at El Alamein was just a glorified shed. (Loads of photographs on Google) This building is brick built, with a quadrupel chimney and guttering with downpipes. This looks to be in the U.K. possibly a barracks, but which one?

Well it could be anywhere I took this from a collection of photo's that I have from my husband's father that served in ww2.  But his mother's family also served in ww1 and ww2.

Maybe it comes from that side I don't really know.
