William Ernest BARNES and his wife Mary Ann (nee HODDER) after 1937?
« on: Wednesday 08 December 10 09:39 GMT (UK) »
My ancestor William Ernest BARNES (b. 3 June 1881 in Dorchester, Dorset, UK) moved to Australia in the early 1900s.  After WWI he married a local lady Mary Ann HODDER in 1922 and they settled in Sydney, NSW.  William was a confectioner/chef/cook.

I have seen evidence of them in the electoral rolls of 1930 (Neutral Bay, Warringah), 1933 (North Sydney) and 1937 (West Sydney).  However their trace disappears hereafter.

I would like to determine when and where they died, and possibly who their children were (the non-living ones).  The NSW BDM does not have this information - I am following up on one possibility though.  Can SKS please help me?

Thanks

Hi there,

Also on electoral roll for 1937, so this is perhaps the year of re-location:

c/- Mrs CONDRON
Kingston
A.C.T.

William Ernest BARNES, Chef

1943
7 Howitt Street
Kingston
A.C.T

William Ernest BARNES, GH Proprietor (Guest House?)

1949
32 Howitt Street
Kingston
A.C.T.

William Ernest BARNES, Chef

I don't see him on the ACT Historical Death Index to 1973 - do you have his parents' names?

And William's death in 1953:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0aoc/

Says "late of" the Kingston address so possibly he's the man who died in NSW (Goulburn district) in 1953 aged 76?

Thank you very much Debra and Jenn!

William Ernest's parents were Stephen BARNES (d. 5 November 1922 in Portsmouth, UK) and Alice Amelia (nee DAWE, d. 1903 in Portsmouth, UK).

I will run with the information on Mary Ann so long - thanks again.

Best regards

Either of their death certs should list all of their children, but a NSW transcription would be the least expensive  http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/howToTraceYouFamTree.htm#TranscriptionAgent

I wonder if they had children living in Goulburn?

YOu may have seen his WW1 digitised record already.

He was 37 on enrolment in May 1918; gives his address as 55 Walker St, North Sydney, his NoK is his father in Laburnum Grove, Portsmouth.
