Need help with an address
« on: Wednesday 08 December 10 02:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

I have a 1924 shipping record which gives a UK contact address as c/- Mrs STEWART, Bay View, Esplanade, Yorkshire.  I am guessing that pretty much every coastal town had an "esplanade", but can anyone offer an opinion as to where this is most likely to have been in 1924?  Somewhere that was more well known for it's esplanade perhaps?  The family was previously associated with Sculcoates, Hull and Bridlington.

Thank you

Debra   :D

Hi Debra

Sounds like a boarding house/ hotel. Could be either Scarborough or Hornsea. Suggest you have a look at a street directory for both to see if Bayview is listed.

Regards

Eric

PS Whitby also has an Esplanade so you will have to check all 3.

There was a 'Bay View House' in The Esplanade in Bridlington in 1911.
