Hello Bob,
Again thanks for info. Please thank George for putting it  together.
I wonder if you have any thoughts on why there are a couple of different dates for the death of Flt Lt Herbert Buck?
George and the newspaper quote March 24th 1945; the CWGC site shows April 2nd 1945; the grave headstone shows April 27th 1945. Finally, the death registration shows Q2 1945 at Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire: ie from April 1945.???
Interestingly, Herbert was reinterred at Stretford Cemetery on May 2 1946. So, where had his body been until then?
Regards
Clive

Hi Clive
Will try George later in the week as he is busy photographing memorials in Manchester.
He said paper was Messenger but I know it was local free paper who get things wrong. My write up in 1938 was wrong my son;s in 1960 was wrong.
We do not know where he was killed, and Chipping Norton suggests he was flown in from somewhere?
Is BMD actual date or registration date?
James  marriage says "Barton on Irwell" but BMD says Barton which is a different Registration District [Which is our Reg Dist].This shows up if you use surname only.
Trying to find site which may be more help
Gravestone should be correct. I noticed it is in age order which suggests 1954.
 Cheers Bob T.

Hello Bob,
Yesterday I went to a local library and checked in "Vol 6 of Bomber Command Losses for 1945" - looking for Flt Lt Herbert Buck. Found zilch. (I don't even know which Command he served with during WW2)
Then I had a message from another site I use: "Luftwaffe and Allied Air Forces Forum". Info received that Herbert had been flying a Harvard from Farnborough to Ringway, carrying spare parts, when the plane crashed near Woodstock in Oxfordshire, on April 27th 1945. A WO2 on board was also killed as were three civilians. One civilian, aged 21 yrs, was buried at Chipping Norton. The WO2 had already survived an horrific crash earlier in the war and had been a POW - presumably being repatriated.
So, it looks as if the headstone is correct. The death cert would confirm it, wouldn't it? Interestingly, this would make the info on CWGC site as wrong. I'll think about notifying them. It'll mean getting the death cert.
More info for George!

Hi Clive
http://www.ww2f.com/
I had a lot of help here re My Own RA Army/RAF Squadron 652[AOP] as little is written about it.Finshed up getting a book.
You have to register but keep the same name as it helps other friemds to ID you.
BBC Message board is also very good
BBC Homepage go to bottom click Family History Then click Message Board.Same things apply same name etc but a delay on replies at first until used it a few times. Hence the "New Bar" Thread.
Passed your info to George.
Cheers Bob t.

Hi Clive,

James Allen Buck and Herbert Arnold Buck are my Great Uncles.  Had a search on the internet and noticed you have taken an interest.  Happy to share any info I have!  Are you family also?

All the best,

Andy

Hello Andy,
Good to hear from you!
My route to your great - uncles: James and Herbert Buck is a bit complicated. You and I aren't related, by the way.
My wife's brother, Patrick, is married to Carmel. Her uncle, Peter Broadbent is the nephew of Rene Broadbent, who married James Buck.
I was helping Peter with his Family Tree and found references to James in a couple of books on the Battle Of Britain. By chance I then found reference to Herbert and his death in a flying accident in April 1945, towards the end of WW2.
I believe their father was a minister in The Catholic Apostolic Church.
That's about as far as I've reached, so I'd be more than happy to share any information.
Cheers
Clive

Hi Clive,

Great stuff, all very interesting!  I'm the grandson of Wallace Buck (James' brother).

Just been on the phone to my Mum. She was interested to hear you mention Rene Broadbent.  She said Rene had a daughter called Diane who she's never met (her cousin). Any info?

I'm getting a couple of pics of James sent over and will post them on here.

Cheers,

Andy
