Good Morning everyone,

I have just signed up to this site and am now looking forward to hopefully solving some of my reasearch problems.

Regarding unhelpful familiy members, my Father has a second cousin who knows our family history inside and out but wont divulge an obvious skeleton - very frustrating.

My Father knows absolutely nothing about his Grandparents. He knows that his Father was brought up by my Grandfather's Grandparents but his Father was alive and well until he was 36! When my Father was old enough to ask about his Grandparents, his Father refused to talk about it.

I have done some lengthy research on Genes Connected, Ancestry.co.uk and others and have tracked down both of my Fathers grandparents. However, my great grandmother disappears off the face of the earth when my Grandfather was born in 1904. I don't know if they got divorced, or if she died or he topped her (?!?) How do I try to find out?

My Father's second cousin obviously knows the full story but will not tell.

My family tree includes the names of Terry (London & Birmingham), Neve (London), Willson (London), Ponisovski (Russia and North of England), Hart (North of England) and Corkett

Hi Claudia,

If anyone can help, I would be forever in their debt - here goes...

My Great Grandmother was Annie Marie Neve, born 1874 Camberwell, London. BDM shows two entires but same reference number - one for Annie Marie Neve and another for Anne Maria Neve. 1901 census shows her family living at 261 New Cross Road Deptford. It took ages to find them as they have, for some unknown reason been entered as Reeves and not Neve! The family shows as Annie with sisters Nellie (or Ellie although I tracked her real name down as Eliza), Amy and Brothers William and Stanley. Here parents were William and Mary (nee Merrell). The family do however show correctly at the same address in 1891.

My Great Grandfather was Cornelius Terry living at 15 Honor Oak Park, Lewisham - with his family in 1901.

Annie and Cornelius married in March 1902 at Greenwich and had my Grandfather, Leslie Terry in January 1904. His birth certificate shows as parents living at Adelaide Road, Brockley, London.

I have Cornelius' death certificate showing him living in Hammersmith at time of death in 1938.

There is no trace of Annie after the birth of Leslie in 1904.

Without timely trips to London to search records - and I don't have the time, I feel that I have hit a brick wall with regard to Annie, until I can get my hands on the 1911 census in 6 years time.
My family tree includes the names of Terry (London & Birmingham), Neve (London), Willson (London), Ponisovski (Russia and North of England), Hart (North of England) and Corkett

There's also this marriage entry on ancestry.com

Annie Maria Terry - March quarter 1910.  Camberwell district.
(index not complete so don't know groom's name)

Did she run off home and marry someone else.  :o  And we all know the penalty for bigamy - two sets of in-laws ;D

WOW  I'm  glad  to  know  I'm  not  alone  having  trouble  even  talking  about  family names  with  older  family  members  they  think  the  dead   should  be  left  dead.  Reading  these  posts  make  me  feel  not  so  alone.

Thank you hlbradd

No, I hadn't found that. I tried a while ago but no joy but as I had found them in 1891 and 1901, I didn't dwell on it too much.

Thank you again
