Thanks Jim, yes that is my family & I do have all the census but Bernard isn't with the family in 1901, you wouldn't beleive the spellings I have found for Wilmot!!!
The story has it that Bernard borrowed money from his brother, Hubert to invest in a rubber plantation in Malaya & lost all the money. Their father died in 1884 leaving them all a lot of money so I'm guessing that what ever Bernard was in prison for was to do with someone elses money going astray.....would really love to find out  :o

you didn't say which Wilmot you had in prison in 1911.I assumed it was Hubert as his was the first name you put up.

Give us his name, occupation, age & family from 1891.

Person: WILMOTT, Hubert

I thought you must have had a different one as he appears in Rugby in 1911.
So we're looking for Bernard.

Hi,

Just a possibility, I wonder if this is Bernard on a passenger list,

Ship: Ballarat
Departure: 28 December 1899,  London
Bound: Calcutta, India
Mr WILMOT
Gent, English, Single, Male
Passenger destination port: Colombo, Sri Lanka (Ceylon)

part of his journey to Malaya?

I also found this incoming passenger which I thought a serious possibility considering he is travelling with a Mrs EARDLY, the same name as his nephew Harold's middle name.

Ship: Himalaya
From: Calcutta
Arrival: 20 Apr 1909, London

Embarked: Colombo
Landed: Plymouth
on the same line  WILMOT Mr & Mrs EARDLY
1st Class
English
oddly they are marked in the accompanied by husband or wife column.

Where does the EARDLY name come from?

Regards,
Daisy
