Marriage at Holy Trinity, Whitehaven
« on: Sunday 05 December 10 15:10 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Is anyone able to check a marriage at Holy Trinity, Whitehaven between Dinah Fletcher and John Hale on 13 Feb 1810 which is on the IGI.

I am trying to discover if Dinah was a widow.

Thanks

Hi Robert

Thanks so much for the information.  Now I will have to try to find a burial for Dinah Fletcher as I was sure that she had married again.

Thanks again

Ancestry.com has this for her:

"Born on 8 Dec 1780 to Isaac Fletcher and Hannah Thompson. Dinah married John Hale and had 6 children. She passed away on 17 Apr 1842 in Holy Trinity, Whitehaven."

I dont have any credits to look though, sorry

Must be this one I suppose

Deaths Jun 1842
HALES    Dinah         Whitehaven    25   108

She appears in 1841 (also as HALES) "aged 50" - was she really the one born in 1780?

John also appears as HALES (a cooper) in an 1829 directory ... and in 1851 HALES, Cooper (retired).
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Hi

Thank you both for all your help.  My Dinah, maiden name Storey, married John Fletcher ?a widower 15 June 1797 in Bridekirk.  They had 5 children Mary 1798, Frances 1800, Samuel 1803, Henry 1805 and Martha (my 3xGt grandmother) in 1807.  John died November 1807 in Workington.

I think John was previously married to Mary Goulding on 26 Sep 1787 and they had 3 children Anne 1788, William 1792 and John 1795 before Mary died in 1795.

Martha turns up in Barnsley Yorkshire in the 1830s married to a John Cope from Beverley.  I have never found the marriage for them and can only guess as to how and where they met.

I presumed that Dinah had married John Hale as the place and dates fitted but will now have to widen my search which is not easy from Yorkshire. I think I need a holiday in the Lake district -maybe next year.

Thanks again.  Your help is very much appreciated.

sorry - I posted up some census information from 1841 and 1851 but is was presumably for the wrong Dinah as I searched her maiden name and not her married name.
