Thomas Craig information

I am trying desperatly to find emigration information on Thomas Craig. The only information I have is his wife's name (Christian Grant Hynes), and thier son's information, which is Noble John Craig, Born 17 July, 1906, Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada. Died 04 March, 1983. Any suggestions or leads would be appriciated.

There's a Thomas CRAIG living in Pincher Creek in the 1901 census.

(Alberta is listed as part of "The Territories")

It looks like the good folks at Automated Genealogy haven't transcribed his family yet in the 1906 census.

I see that Pincher Creek is not listed by name in the Government of Canada site for the 1906 census.

This webpage explains how the districts were broken up for the 1906 census in Alberta:

For Pincher Creek post office:  District 18; Sub-district numbers:  6, 7, 8, 9, 18, 19, 20, 21 & 22

It has links to the images.

For example, District 18, Sub-district 6 has 10 pages you can view.  (I opt to view it without the Mr. Sid plug-in and it works just fine.)

Perhaps you will find your CRAIG family that way.

This shows a Thomas Craig in the 1891 census of Alberta:

He's 26 years old, born in Ireland, and a rancher, but listed as Roman Catholic.


The LDS site www.familysearch.org shows a Thos. H. Craig, 16 years old, born in Ireland, living in Winnipeg, Selkirk, Manitoba in the home of George and Maggie Firestino. 

If this is the right person, then it looks like he lived in Manitoba before he settled in Alberta.

Looking at the whole thread ...might we have a British home child here, altho haven't found him on any lists as yet...
But I see no sign of Craigs from Ireland in Manitoba who might be parents...He's have been around  9 or 10 when he immigrated...Odd that a 16 year old is a clerk for a farmer in Manitoba...but his smarts obviously made him a good rancher...J.J.

This is an old thread, and seems the poster isn't interested in the family anymore, but have since found lots of information on Thomas & Christina Craig, so if anyone else is ever interested have their obits on file and have names four sons, and some grandchildren, etc.
 Thomas ( & family, I guess?) settled in Meaford Ontario circa 1874, he then later moved west, joined the N.W.M.P. in 1882.. and said he took part in the Riel Rebellion...all  exaggerated in his obit, along with other feats he took part in during his six year stint in the force from the age of 17. However they did take a moment from all that and gave siblings, a brother Dave & sister Mrs. james Mitchell in Toronto



There are no Craigs left in Meaford/1881

There's the marriage of an Isabella McKay Craig (father David Craig? ) to William James Mitchell...

Found  a David with a Noble Craig in Toronto 1901, but there are others...so the name isn't as unusual as I had thought...

looking at the obit...says he was 91 in 1944...which would make him born in 1853 Ireland not 1865?? also seems to imply he came west in 1882 with the military, so...

so in Grey East that same family still looks promising with a Thomas in household...

It was an interesting mystery, and still is... Not sure if Thomas or his family heightened his age
