Where buried - Bridgend or Cardiff

Hi,

My Gt-Gt-Gt Uncle Pellegrino Mazzei died in the Lunatic Asylum in Newcastle Higher, Bridgend in 1869.

His death certificate states that his abode was Ivor Street in Cardiff.

He lived with his brothers' family in the 1860's (Ivor St. Cardiff) but was sent to the asylum in 1866 where he died 3 years later.

I know that most of his family were buried in Cathays Cemetery, Cardiff, but do you think that the family would also have buried him here, or might the asylum have buried him in Bridgend?

If it was in Bridgend can anybody suggest which cemetery he might be buried in?

Glamorgan Archives have patient records, 1864-1956 as part of the collection Glamorgan County Lunatic Asylum/Glamorgan County Mental Hospital/Glanrhyd Hospital records. Reference code: GB 0214 DHGL

Perhaps Pellegrino's records would provide more information?

I have Pellegrino's patient notes but unfortunately it does not state where he was buried.

It just states "Chargeable to Cardiff Union."

You could try Cardiff bereavement services on 029 2062 3294. They have graves of cemeteries in Cardiff, they may say to be more specific though but you could try them.

The hospital in Newcastle Higher did have it's own burial area, not sure of the years in was in use tho'.
