John McFadyen Donaldson b. 1859 Newmarket Completed
« on: Friday 03 December 10 13:43 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I would really appreciate any help as to what became of John and whether he had any family of his own.

He was one of the sons of Ebenezer Donaldson 1810-1878 and Martha. Four of his brothers emigrated to Australia and the USA and afurther one moved to Derry and died in 1904.

The only information that I have on John is that he served as a surgeon with the Medical Services of the British Army during the Burma campaign of 1877-79 and his apparent death date is 1943.

Thanks

Mel

Hi Mel
found

John McFadyen Donaldson
son of
Ebenezer Donaldson and  Martha Boles Bernard

on someones tree In Ancestry

Also he is  on the 1887-1889
UK, Military Campaign Medal and Award Rolls, 1793-1949
Where he served in Burma  as a Surgeon.

The  tree has  alot of information about Ebenezer, who was also a doctor, and  info about his 11 children. This include info about the family in Australia.

I think the best would be to  visit Ancestry or if you like I can contact this Tree Owner and let him know of yourself. I can find some info for you but there's quite  a bit about the Donaldson's.  I wasn't able to work out how he's related to your John Donaldson. It's one of those Trees with thousands of names!

Patrick.
O Driscoll, McCarthy, Collins, Fitzgerald, Johnson, Gunn, Swanton, Barry, O'Neill, O'Mahony,
O Donoughue, O Mahony, Connolly, Cadogan.

Hello Patrick

No problems.  ;D

My tree is there to trace living relatives of the missing Fromelles British soldiers who are DNA compatible.

In this instance, it is John's nephew.

Mel

Hello,
I'm just puzzled re the 'apparent death date'. If you have some information re this - where did he die? Was he still in Ireland?

regards
heywood

browsing the web there is the odd reference to Eion Pelly Donaldson, India Office.
One is here:
http://history.prm.ox.ac.uk/students.php?all

There is also a medal card for him and a birth 1896 -London.

I wonder if he is a son?
