It looks as if somewhere in the late 19th century, the family anglicised their surname from Hehl to Hill.

Leopold Hehl married Mary Ann Palmer on Mar 30th 1873 at St Peters, Bethnal Green.  They were married by banns.

Leopold Hehl / bachelor / 23 / shoe maker / 27 Gloucester St / Leopold Hehl / carpenter
Mary Ann Palmer / Spinster / 24 / 27 Gloucester St / John Palmer / baker

witnesses were Samuel? Lyndoe and Janey? Palmer

Wow, you guys are incredible, thank you all so much.

I am going to go and print all these bits out now.  Its so exciting finding a foreign link in the family, it has opened up whole new world for me to look at.

I will order the death certificate for the 1970 death, just to make sure that I am definately on the right track.

Again thank you all very much.
