East Sussex Bastardy Papers
« on: Thursday 02 December 10 09:52 GMT (UK) »
Hello Chatters,

would appreciate a lookup if anyone has the East Sussex Bastardy Papers CD for any mention of a Harriet Kemp or children Thomas and Susannah originally from Burwash
in the period say from 1833 through 1845. Harriet possibly appears in a Hastings workhouse (1841) before she is ordered back to Burwash but I lose track of her after this time.
Thanks in advance

Chris

Hi Chris,

Checked through the Bastardy Papers CD and nothing there I am afraid. Records for Burwash only go up to 1817.

There is a baptism for a Harriet Kemp(Bastard) in Burwash born 16 Jun 1811 baptised 21 May 1811 Mother Sarah Kemp

There is also a baptism for another Harriet Kemp who might be the daughter bap 9 Dec 1832 Mother Harriet Kemp Spinster.

Hope that helps.

I have been searching for East Sussex bastardy information for a long time, so hope that this enquiry bears some fruit.
I am brickwalled over .......Richard Ticehurst b 20/7/1782 in Eastbourne.

He was base born , and his mother was an Anne ?  I can find no info as to who his father was.
He was later baptised at St Mary's Eastbourne,  along with the children of James Ticehurst and Abigail Pierce, and on those baptism records he is shown as ....Richard, base born son of Anne  ?  and thats all I have.

I am assuming that the mentioned Anne was maybe the sister of James, or maybe James had a mistress and took responsibility fo the child....however....I need to know .....driving me nuts trying to find out   :-\
Dobbins / Cullen / Walsh / Kenny    (Ireland...Dublin)
Ticehurst / Elliott / Reed / Potter / Baulcom / Verrall    ( Sussex)
Spackman / Lighten / Leighton     ( Essex)
Martin / Jukes      ( Kent....Maidstone....Farleigh)
