John G Ballard
« on: Thursday 02 December 10 02:42 GMT (UK) »
I'm afraid I've hit a brick wall with my paternal Ballard side of my family.

On another thread here on R/C I found out that my great grandmother Isabella Ballard was murdered in Blackwell tunnel London in 1952 aged 65.

I knew she had married John G Ballard in 1911 when they were both aged 22 which gives a birth date of birth around 1888-89  but can't find any other information on John, I have found a few John Ballards but none seem to fit the mold.

I do know that his fathers name was also John and my family all seem to come from the Iden area. (and later from Bermondsey)

Any information on John G Ballard and beyond would be very much appreciated.

Regards

Vince

JOhn George Ballard married Isabella Dixon at St James Hatcham Lewisham on 12th Nov 1911.

He was 22 a bachelor and a cocoa grinder, his address was 17 Clifton Hill, dad's name also John, a retired engineer.

Isabella was 25 a spinster of 20 Alexandra Street dad James Dixon a Blacksmith.

Witnesses Bernard Dixon,James Dixon and Hilda Stimson.

Everyone signed their name.

In 1901 there is a 50 year old retired engineers labourer John Ballard in Mile End old Town infirmiary.

He was born in London City...might be worth following up?

RG13/338 folio 114 page 7

I wonder if young John might have been in the services just before he married, the 1911 indexes don't show any John's that really fit the bill.

Thank you very much for your help Carol

I did find out most of that from another thread on here (murder in the Blackwell Tunnel) but I can't seem to find out where John G was born.

I wonder how old John senior would have been when he retired, I suppose as it would've been around the age of 65 ? which mean John G would've been born pretty late in his life.

Thank you again

Best regards

Vince

I was thinking if that 50 year old John in hospital in 1901 was his dad, maybe he retired early through ill health?

Do you know when John George died? If it was after 1969 then his DOB should be given(if the informants knew it)
